North Island U16 & U18 Interprovincials
Date: 28-30 January 2022 (Competition Day 29 January 2022)
Venue: TBC Counties Venue - Auckland
The North Island Te Ika A Maui U16-U18 Interprovincials are held every year in January. For the 2022 edition, the Tamaki Makaurau team management have opted to not be part of the accommodation. This is due to the current covid-climate we are in and the very real possibility of the local team needing to give up their accommodation spots for the travelling teams. We hope in subsequent seasons, we can resume a full weekend once the environment allows us the freedoms to do so. For our team, all athletes will need to make their way to the competition venue very early in the morning and compete for the day. We anticipate joining in on the prizegiving as well, but details of this are not yet confirmed.
The U16-U18 Interprovincials have two team competitions, one for U16 (14 & 15 years old) and one for U18 (16 & 17 years old). Every athlete will compete in three events and also in the medley relay team. There are no heats for this competition, but every athlete's results will gain points which are accumulated for the team total.
U16 Athletes compete in either two field events and one track event, or two track events and one field event.
U18 Athletes compete in three events; any combination of track and field events.
The Auckland region is represented by two teams – Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Counties Manukau.
